Plant Care Specialist (Part-Time)

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Plant Care Specialist to join our team at our Taking Root Plant Shop, located inside our second store location in Frankfort (Bridge Thrift Home and Restoration). The ideal candidate will assist with plant care, disease management, propagating, guest services and general retail tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • Assisting in growing new plants through various methods.
  • Monitoring and maintaining plant health and appearance including watering, fertilizing, pruning, light conditions and pest management.
  • Preparing plants for sale including research, potting, labeling, and pricing.
  • Perform opening and closing tasks in retail area.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized and well-stocked and neatly displayed shop area.
  • Provide excellent customer service on plant-related inquiries and educate guests on plant care.
  • Maintain plant care equipment and supplies (pots, pruners, watering cans, etc.)
  • Collaborate with team members and provide communication on plant care, inventory and guest services.
  • Assist in all aspects of preparing and hosting workshops; terrarium, fairy gardens, succulent teacups, beginning plant care classes, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Store Operator.

MUST POSSESS:

  • Heart for the mission of The Bridge Teen Center.
  • Experience & knowledge of plant species, propagation techniques all aspects of plant care.
  • Strong organizational & time management skills.
  • High level of awareness (of the store and your area).
  • Strong, friendly, and engaging verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of quality guest services.
  • Willingness to work hard at completing all tasks with excellence.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods of time.
  • 1 -3 years of retail experience is a plus.
  • Experience at a nursery or greenhouse is also a plus.
  • Passion for plants, sales and sustainable practices.
  • Personal and professional integrity (even in social and online settings).
  • Sense of humor.

  • This position must be available to work 15-29 hours a week.
  • Our base pay begins at $16-$18 depending on experience, plus merchandise discounts.
