How often have you heard “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? Now you can really get a great book in your hands that you may not have picked out for yourself! A Blind Date with a Book is a hand-wrapped book, carefully curated from a wide range of popular genres that is tagged with intriguing clues alluding to the book inside. The idea originated at Elizabeth's Bookshops in Australia and is now available at Waitrose stores in England and to the rest of the world. Join this international phenomenon and meet with fellow book lovers and librarians from Oak Forest’s Acorn Public Library in “blindly” choosing a short book to read and discuss in the Hideaway at The Bridge.
Part 1 (August 2): Pick a book and see what other students have picked, spend some time reading in the cozy nooks in the Hideaway, take your book home to read over the next week.
Part 2 (August 9): Return for part two of the program to discuss what you have read so far, and it’s ok if you haven’t finished it! Get more book recommendations from the librarians and other book lovers.
This program is a two-day series that builds on itself each day. Please ensure you are able to attend both days when you sign up.
Educational Support programs this summer are sponsored by Huntington Learning Center.
Important Attendance Policy:
Out of respect to our volunteers, please be sure you can attend the programs you sign up for. Confirmation calls or text messages are made 48-72 hours prior to every program. If you do not respond to our confirmation call within 24 hours of the program, a student on the waiting list will fill your spot. If a student is a "no show" for 2 or more programs, they will be automatically placed on the waiting list for other programs they have signed up for during that semester. 48 hours notice is required for all cancellations.
