Learn more about the astrolabe, a medieval navigational tool. By using all of the delicate working parts, an astrolabe can tell you the date, time, and even identify particular stars and planets in the sky. It’s a cool part of history and it’s kind of like an ancient smartphone.

Dive into how the astrolabe relates to your favorite apps on your smartphone and also with your life. Create your own astrolabe and turn each working part into a representation of the values you hold, people you love, and goals you set for yourself. Look into history, evaluate the present, and dream about your future!

Students should eat an early lunch before attending the program or may bring a light snack and water. Time for lunch will not be incorporated into the program.

*For this program, students will travel in The Bridge Bus to an offsite location. They will be going to Adler Planetarium, located at 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. Must have "Permission to Transport" indicated on Student Membership Application (check your Student Portal to make sure).

Important Attendance Policy:

Out of respect to our volunteers, please be sure you can attend the programs you sign up for. Confirmation calls or text messages are made 48-72 hours prior to every program. If you do not respond to our confirmation call within 24 hours of the program, a student on the waiting list will fill your spot. If a student is a "no show" for 2 or more programs, they will be automatically placed on the waiting list for other programs they have signed up for during that semester. 48 hours notice is required for all cancellations.
