Anonymous Q&A

Ok, so heres my question. I suffer depression (i'm not on medication). And i have a therapist and everything but my depression just seems to get worse. Yes i am a cutter and i burn, and I do get suicidal thoughts... People don't know i'm depressed because i am, how can i say this... I'm a bit crazy and energetic. I just dont know who else to reach out to besides my therapist. and any resources would be apreciated

Reaching out to people is a great step to take. You are not alone, and sharing your pain inside with someone else can lead to healing the hurt.  First, I would ask your therapist if he/she knows of any additional resources.  Second, if you have been seeing a therapist for a while and nothing has changed, you and your parent(s) might want to consider seeking out another therapist that better fits your needs.

As far as additional resources directly in your community, many counseling centers and schools offer discussion groups for hurting teens (as does The Bridge Teen Center).  Also, if you are open to spiritual support, finding a youth group at a local church can also provide a good support system.  If you are not already, consider getting involved in school activities or after-school programs.  This will provide possible friends to talk with and create a healthy diversion from the urge to hurt yourself.

I would like to encourage you to confide in someone you trust and admit to them you need more help.  Because you are an energetic person by nature, those who love you and could be a support to you may not even know you are struggling.  In the meantime, what you can do right now is to create a list of things you like to do such as listening to music, reading, movies, biking, etc.  Try doing something on this list when you are feeling down.  It will help you get “unstuck” from the bad feelings!

Please know that if you live in the area, The Bridge Teen Center is here for you and we can provide specific resources in our community to get the love, support and help you need.   Feel free to email the staff privately (email can be found on our contact page) or seek us out when you are at The Bridge.  Additional resources you may find helpful:
